We have 2 rules for our residents:

  • Respect yourself - your space, your body, your time.

  • Respect others - in shared areas; kitchen, bathroom, your tone, their time.

We encourage counseling, but don’t require it.  We discourage overnight guests but don’t forbid it.

We are clear up front that illegal activity is prohibited at The Grove.

We aim to help these young women to make good and wise choices without being overbearing.  We treat them with dignity and respect. They deserve respect, not because of what they’ve done or not done, but because of who they are and what they have overcome.  They entered the Foster Care System through no fault of their own, and they are still standing, still here and ready to change or improve their narrative.

Our apartments are fully furnished and have ample storage.  We are located within walking distance of multiple employers and less than a mile from the heart of Downtown Montgomery.  We are able to provide transportation when needed and reasonable.  We can also assist with obtaining a driver’s license.

We are trauma informed and trained.  We work with the girls to set goals for themselves and will not make decisions for them.  Our advocates are there for support, guidance and encouragement, not to tell you what to do. We want to help you find out what you want for yourself and equip you to make it happen.

We are available to invest time and energy to assist with job applications, college applications, interview prep and driving instruction.

We offer financial literacy classes and life skills training.

If there is a desire to try a new hobby, explore the great outdoors or just spend time in community, we are here for it!  We provide support groups, book clubs, therapeutic yoga and open mic nights.  We encourage art and expression as well as reading and learning.

Our program length is 1-3 years, depending on the needs and desires of the young women we serve.  Goals will be discussed upon entry and tweaked and revised as needed.  Residents will check in with their advocate and/or Grove Director weekly and move up in the program as appropriate.  Phases will depend on goals set by resident and Director, but typically end with stable employment or school enrollment, appropriate life skills and coping strategies, and a safe and stable place to live.

Upon their graduation from The Grove MGM, we will throw a party and shower them with gifts to get them set up in their new home.
